Aztecs land a late 2016 recruit in quarterback Daniel Prieto.

San Diego State added a very late addition 2016 recruit when Compton junior college quarterback Daniel Prieto decided to switch his commitment from Oregon State and will head South and play for the Aztecs.

"I would like to thank Coach [Kevin] McGiven and the Oregon State coaching staff for the opportunity to be a Beaver," Prieto said on his Twitter account. "Also, I would like to give a special thanks to Garrett Owens for giving me a place to stay and answering all of my questions.

"Lastly, I want to thank all of the Beaver fans that welcomed me. However, I will not be attending Oregon State this fall. Some times God points you in a different direction and that’s what happened here. I will be further my education and playing football at San Diego State University."

Back on March 29, Prieto was fully committed to playing football for the Beavers.

"I told Coach McGiven that I am 100 percent committed to them. I will be going out to the spring game," he told The Oregonian. "And I plan to be out there in the summer because that's when coach (Kevin) McGiven said he wanted me out there so I can get in the weight program."

Yet, something changed. Possibly a scholarship opened up at San Diego State, because Prieto was to be a preferred walk-on for Oregon State.

Prieto will not see much playing this year for San Diego State as Christian Chapman is the starting quarterback.

Prior to his year of playing junior college, Prieto, played his high school ball at Newbury Park, California, and threw for 3,687 yards and 47 touchdowns with just five interceptions and earned multiple awards.

However, out of high school he had just one scholarship offer and that was to Jackson State. He also options to be a preferred walk-on at New Mexico but decided to go to that junior college path, and it seemed to workout with better FBS options.

At Compton, Prieto completed 161 of 288 passes for 1,514 yards, had 15 touchdowns and three interceptions in eight games.

He will have three years of eligibility left.

Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg is a Boise State fan? At the very least a fan of one of their latest recruits.

One of Boise State's recruits for their 2016 class has a big-time fan in actor Mark Wahlberg. That recruit is safety/wide receiver Jordan Happle out of Oregon. Happle is not the highest rated prospect with a two-star rating, but he was a finalist for the Oregon Sports Awards Prep Football Player of the Year.

Congrats Jordan Happle on becoming part of the Boise State family. Keep making your pops proud. #StriveForGreatness pic.twitter.com/LaxrRMurEG

"My dad's job is sports marketing, so he's become friends with him," Happle told The Oregonian. "I didn't even see it until a friend texted it to me. I don't have social media or anything. It was nice of him."

Happle didn't even know about the congratulatory tweet until some friends informed him, and it must be pretty cool to get a shoutout of this magnitude.

While his connection to Walhberg is certainly high-profile, Happle was not heavily recruited despite having a great junior year with with 74 catches for 1,416 yards and 15 touchdowns, and his size might be the reason that his other offer was Montana State -- Happle stands at just 6-foot-2 and weighs 190 pounds.

His senior year his production did dip a bit with 40 receptions for 639 yards and six touchdowns in eight games.

Here are the highlights of Happle, and a big ol' tip of the cap to Bronco Nation News.

It was Boise State who took home the top class, but it was close with Colorado State at second.

National signing day is complete, including the late stragglers who signed their letter of intent, and the rankings have finally settled. Boise State was named the recruiting champion from 247Sports composite rankings with 22 three-star rated commits, which was the most and edged out Colorado State by just three points.

The Broncos were able to hold onto the majority of their class despite losing both coordinators. The same could not be said for Utah State who lost all but a few coaches and they struggled with the ninth class.

Defending conference champion San Diego State had a strong class which was good enough for the fourth-best. San Jose State who was projected as the No. 2 class on the eve of National Letter of Intent day, but they dipped to the middle of the pack with the fifth rated class.

The Lobos had one of their best seasons in years but the momentum did not carry over for the 2016 class -- look for that to change for the 2017 cycle -- to finish seventh.

The big surprise was UNLV finishing with the third best class and what is looking like the best class ever for the Rebels. It is very much looking like hiring former Bishop Gorman coach Tony Sanchez was a great idea.

The Rebels landed a very good dual-threat quarterback in Armani Rogers who wants to be the next Randall Cunningham. In a few years, UNLV might be atop the actual Mountain West football standings.

In Bob Davie's 5th recruiting class he was able to secure 21 players and a top 100 class ranking.

When it comes to recruiting paper does not always translate into results but for Bob Davie and the New Mexico Lobos coaching staff they do know that results do lead to better recruiting. The Lobos who finished the season with a record of 7-6 made an appearance in the New Mexico Bowl and had some exposure with games on ESPNU and ESPN2 this year.

They have shown that they are a program on the rise which makes it a lot easier to sell players on parents on the idea of playing for the Lobos.

When Davie took over five years ago he took over a program that was decimated he could not image that he would be competing against the power five conferences for some player and actually winning.

The seven players that the Lobos signed are players that are not the four and five start athletes that these schools get but they are a lot of players that had options many of these players may have been lost in the shuffle at these bigger schools but at New Mexico they will have a chance to compete for playing time and make an impact for the Lobos.

The Lobos who did a good job of distributing there 21 available scholarships on the offensive side they signed five offensive lineman, three wide receivers, one tight end, one running back and two quarterbacks. One the defensive side they signed two defensive lineman, two linebackers, and four defensive backs. The Lobos also signed a punter this year.

The Lobos were able to sign four of the state's top seven players with big prize being Defensive end Teton Saltes from Albuquerque's Valley High School. Saltes who had offers form eight power conference schools is a player that Bob Davie felt could have gone anywhere to play.

Along with Saltes the Lobos also secured commitments from Wide receiver Marcus Williams and quarterback/safety Gabe Ortega from Rio Rancho's Cleveland High School. The final player from the state of New Mexico the Lobos signed was Las Cruces High School quarterback Kameron Miller.

Get a closer look at the Wyoming Cowboys class.

The Wyoming Cowboys signed a class of 23 players under the latest edition of Craig Bohl's class. Last year's Wyoming team was young and the defense as an issue and on the defensive side of the ball the Cowboys inked 10 defenders.

Another area of need is wide receiver, quarterback and offensive line; OK outside of running back everything was a need for the Cowboys. As for the offense the Cowboys picked up a giant of a recruiting in offensive lineman Dustin Weeks who is a whopping 6-feet-9-inches but he could stand to add to that 257-pound frame.

Take a look at the class, highlights and watch coach Bohl's press conference.

The Rainbow Warriors add the state of Hawaii Defensive Player of the Year to their roster.

Hawaii will add the Honolulu-Star Advertiser Defensive Player of the Year, Keala Santiago. Santiago played safety for Kahuku High School and earned a multitude of first-team honors in his senior season.

He was a pillar of the Kahuku defense that held opponents to 4.1 points per game and shut 6 of them out. KHS ended their season with a 13-0 record while claiming the OIA and HHSAA State Championship.

Along with his safety duties, Santiago was the Kahuku punt return man. In that role, he earned the KHON2 Cover2 Chad Owens Award, for the best special teams player of the year.

Keala Santiago earned a three-star rating from Scout and 247Sports.

Along with his scholarship offer from Hawaii, he also received ones from Colorado, Navy, Army and UNLV.

Hauianio will reunite with a former coach in Chris Naeole at UH to help fortify the offensive line.

The 'Bows add a local offensive lineman, Josh Hauanio, from Iolani School. The third-team all-state interior lineman bought into the 'Defend Pride Rock' trend and committed to Hawaii.

He also had offers to play for Army, Western New Mexico and Northern Arizona.

However, Hauanio saw himself as a part of the Rainbow Warrior program and when you combined that with his previous connection with coach Chris Naeole it was enough to keep him locked in.

He helped the Iolani Raiders to their 2014 Hawaii High School Athletic Association (HHSAA) state championship; as well as their back to back Interscholastic League of Honolulu (ILH) titles.

Outside of football Hauanio also threw the shot put for the Raider track and field team.
