2013 San Diego State football recruiting: Aztecs get verbal from DB Malik Smith

San Diego State earned a soft verbal from Compton, Calif., defensive back Malik Smith.

Jake Roth-US PRESSWIRE

The San Diego St. Aztecs have been hot on the recruiting trail this past week, and on Sunday they picked up their fourth verbal commit in the past seven days. The latest edition is defensive back Malik Smith (Compton, Calif./Dominguez), he had interest from Arizona, Nevada, Utah and Washington, but no offers from those schools.

Smith is listed as having a soft verbal to the Aztecs, and has an official visit scheduled next week with the Nevada Wolf Pack. Taking an officila visto to Nevada could be a scary proposition since new head coach Brian Polian is a very good recruiter, and could possibly flip Smith's soft verbal to the Aztecs.

San Diego State does need some bodies to try to replace Leon McFadden who is off to the NFL, it is unlikely that Smith will be that guy in the first year, or ever. However, after two or three years in the program -- with a redshirt -- Smith should be able to find his way onto the field for San Diego State.

With Smith having a soft verbal, and a visit to Nevada, his recruitment is far from over.
