New Mexico football: Nias Martin will play with his hometown squad in Baltimore

Undrafted free agent Nias Martin signs with Ravens

NFL: Baltimore Ravens-Minicamp Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Nias Martin (corner back) will be playing with his hometown team, the Baltimore Ravens. Martin will compete with the likes of Jimmy Smith, Tavoun Young, Shareece Wright and Brandon Carr.

The Ravens were 9th in pass defense a season ago, it should come to no ones surprise that someone with these skill assets have intrigued the Ravens front office. Martin excels in corralling to the ball, and has tremendous closing speed. He was able to rack up 51 tackles this past season, as well as 11 broken up passes. Martin plays his best in one on one coverage. There is no easy completion with the former Lobo in the area.

Martin could possibly be a gunner on special teams because of his closing ability. A corner back that is able to square up runners and make one-on-one tackles is very promising for NFL scouts. He is difficult to shake and will not allow receivers to get past him. Martin has an amazing work ethic and will continue to improve at the corner spot. There is no doubt that he will learn a few tips from a veteran filled secondary.

Look for Martin to make an impact this offseason and prove to be a thorn in the sides for all of the wide outs in Baltimore.
