NCAA Tournament Bracket Projections for the Mountain West

Where does the Mountain West stand in NCAA tournament projections?

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

College basketball has been absolutely crazy this year.  No team can keep a top 5 spot and teams that were "guaranteed" bottom dwellers are now a top their respected conference. The Mountain West is without exception to this year's wild season as it is in fact wide open.  San Diego State has come out swinging winning all six of their first conference games, but Boise isn't far behind them in second currently 4-1 in conference play.

Then we have a team like Wyoming who was coming off a crushing loss to last place San Jose State, (325 RPI Rank) come out and beats the Lobos on their home floor.  With March slowly but surely creeping around the corner, we still wonder what team or how how many teams will make the big dance.

San Diego State: SDSU is the only team averaging out as a tournament team with a 12 seed currently.  Almost every projected bracket has them in as either a 12 seed or a thirteen seed, with one 11 seed.  Quality wins include: California, Boise State, Fresno State.

Boise State: After being the only team in the field in my last projection post, the Broncos have fallen off the track a bit being in the "First Four Out" field.  With the brackets that do include Boise as a tournament team, they are a higher seed than the Aztecs at an 11 seed.  As we get deeper into conference play, it will be interesting to see how Boise does and if they will be happy campers on Selection Sunday. Quality wins include: UC Irvine, Oregon, Fresno State.

UNLV: The Rebels sure are running as of late as they have won their first three games under interim coach Tom Simon.  They may be a long shot to make the tournament, but a couple of convincing road wins in conference play and maybe a little bit of a run in the MW Tournament could be just what they need.  They currently average out at an 11 seed with the brackets they are projected to be in. Quality wins include: Indiana, Oregon, New Mexico.
