Utah State vs Nevada: Aggies Keys to Victory

Can winning this game save a disappointing season for Utah State?

Overall, this has been a disappointing year for both Utah State and Nevada. Utah State was supposed to make a serious run at the Mountain West title, and Nevada was at least supposed to reach bowl eligibility. Now both teams are 3-7, and have no chance to reach the Mountain West championship game or a bowl.

Both teams need a win to improve morale, as both Utah State and Nevada are on losing streaks of 3 games or more. Utah State especially needs a win. Head coach Matt Wells is likely on the hot seat and needs to finish this season strong.

The Aggies need to get a win tomorrow. Here’s what they must do.

Play with confidence.

This is going to be hard for a team like Utah State. They are on a 3-game losing streak, and they were supposed to be competing for a conference title. On top of that, they lose embarrassingly to New Mexico last week. The Aggies need to forget about everything and just play. To be frank, they’re a better team than Nevada. They just need to prove it.

Play better defense.

Coming into the season, I thought the Utah State defense would be shutting offenses down left and right. Over the past three games, they have allowed a total of 1,345 yards of offense, an average of about 450 a game. If they want to come anywhere close to winning, they need to play better defense.

Take care of the ball.

One of the fundamental rules of football, don’t turn the ball over. The past few weeks the Aggies haven’t been very good at that, turning the ball over 5 times. If you turn the ball over that much you can’t expect to win.
