New Memphis head coach Mike Norvell is filling out his coaching staff by sticking with those from the West coast, Norvell was the offensive coordinator for Arizona State.
He is not just going West, but to the Mountain West and has hired on Fresno State secondary coach Marcus Woodson as cornerbacks coach. Norvell also is hiring Utah State's safeties coach Joe Lorig as special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach
Both hires are being reported by Sports Illustrated's Thayer Evans.
Lorig has connections with Norvell as the two coached together at Arizona State where Lorig was responsible for special teams coordinator and was the cornerbacks coach. He was with Utah State for the past two years where he coached the safeties in his first year and the linebackers last year.
Both Utah State and Fresno State have lost multiple coaches this off season, either by firing or taking other jobs.
The Aggies lost Josh Heupel who is now the offensive coordinator with Missouri, the same position he held with the Aggies and Ikaika Malloe to Washington to be their defensive line coach. Also, there are reports that Utah State could be losing defensive coordinator Kevin Clune to Oregon State to for the same position.
Fresno State reassigned coaches but let go of the services of offensive coordinator Dave Schramm.
