Week 5 Mountain West Bowl Projections: Boise State to playing in New Year's Six bowl?

Another week, means another set of bowl projections for the Mountain West. Despite the league looking like a mess this conference is contractually obligated to send teams outside of Boise State bowling. We kid, well sort of.

We took a look at projections from SB Nation, ESPN and CBS Sports. As a reminder, ESPN had two projections in some cases because they use two analysts, Mark Schlabach and Brett McMurphy for their predictions.

Boise State:

Fiesta Bowl vs. Stanford in Glendale, Arizona. CBS Sports

Las Vegas Bowl vs California in Las Vegas, Nevada. SB Nation

Las Vegas Bowl vs Arizona State in Las Vegas, Nevada. ESPN

Hawaii Bowl vs Houston in Honolulu, Hawaii. ESPN

Boise State kind of controls their own destiny in playing in a New Year's Six bowl.  Say they run the table in the Mountain West like everyone suspects they will, I believe they will be Glendale on the 1st.

Air Force:

Armed Forces Bowl vs Minnesota in Fort Worth, Texas. CBS Sports

Armed Forces Bowl vs Indiana in Fort Worth, Texas. SB Nation

Poinsettia Bowl vs Boston College in San Diego, California. ESPN

After two tough losses to Michigan State and Navy, I think the Falcons will have a tremendous bounce back game against Wyoming.

San Diego State:

Arizona Bowl vs Louisiana Tech in Tuscon, Arizona. CBS Sports

Poinsettia Bowl vs San Jose State in San Diego, California. SB Nation

Poinsettia Bowl vs Ball State in San Diego, California. ESPN

The Aztecs got a much needed win over Fresno State and are currently 2-3.  It'll be close but I think they can finish 6-6 or 7-5 if extremely lucky.

Utah State:

Arizona Bowl vs Rice in Tuscon, Arizona. SB Nation

New Mexico Bowl vs. Rice in Albuquerque, New Mexico. ESPN

Cactus Bowl vs Washington in Phoenix, Arizona. ESPN

The Aggies will travel to Fresno to play the Bulldogs this Saturday.  This is a must win as they are currently 2-2 with Boise State looming on the 16th.

Nevada:

Idaho Potato Bowl vs Akron in Boise Idaho. CBS Sports

The Wolf Pack suffered a pretty bad loss against UNLV at home.  With New Mexico next they need to win to have any shot at a bowl appearance.  Honestly, I don't see it.

Colorado State:

New Mexico Bowl vs Rice in Albuquerque, New Mexico. CBS Sports

Idaho Potato Bowl vs Bowling Green in Boise Idaho. SB Nation

New Mexico Bowl vs. Southern Miss in Albuquerque, New Mexico. ESPN

Idaho Potato Bowl vs Ohio in Boise, Idaho. ESPN

A showdown is looming between the Colorado State and Boise State.  Sadly, this three game swing that started with a loss to Utah State and ends with Air Force, sandwiched with Boise State could leave to a lot of nervous Ram fans in Fort Collins.

San Jose State:

Poinsettia Bowl vs San Diego State in San Diego, California. SB Nation

Armed Forces Bowl vs Indiana in Fort Worth, Texas. ESPN

They put up 21 against an SEC team.  Moral victory? Maybe.  Bowl team? TBD.  I really like this team but they could fall into some trouble once conference play is in its core.

New Mexico:

New Mexico Bowl vs Southern Miss. in Albuquerque, New Mexico. SB Nation

A little two-game winning streak going into Nevada?  WHY NOT THE LOBOS?!?

UNLV:

Idaho Potato Bowl vs. Central Michigan in Boise, Idaho. ESPN
