When signing day rolled around for the Wyoming Cowboys coaching staff, they had secured one commitment at the linebacker position but had wanted multiple. Alex Bush out of La Habra (Cali.) was the only one to sign but that didn't stop the staff from looking for more linebackers after signing day had past. Luckily for the Cowboys it looks like they have found their man to pair up with Bush in A.J. Hotchkins out of Tigard, (Ore.)
Hotchkins is a 6'0", 230-pound battering ram excelled on the defensive side of the ball at middle linebacker and on occasions at defensive end to go along with being a devastating blocker on offense and special teams. He was a first-team all-state class 6A linebacker.
When signing day rolled around, Hotchkins had FCS options in Montana, Idaho, Northern Colorado and Portland State but decided the dream of playing FBS football was to great to pass up. He had made a verbal commitment to Montana originally back in October but decided to open back up his recruitment the closer he got to signing day. So his plans turned to signing with a Juco, if no FBS offer came through, namely between offers from Iowa Western, Blinn (Tex.) and Georgia Military. Hotchkins finally settled on signing with Blinn (Tex.) until Wyoming came through late. After an offer, he immediately committed and signed with the Cowboys.
One looming question remains about Hotchkins, will he be coming in this Fall or will he be a greyshirt?
