Both programs could join MW for both football and basketball the next calendar year.

Mere weeks after the two sides came to an agreement to join on the football side of things for the 2024 season, Oregon State and Washington State—from the dissolved Pac-12—and the Mountain West are in talks to join the conference for the 2024-25 college basketball season, insider Jon Rothstein reported Thursday.

The two programs joined the MW for the football season in early December. All 12 Mountain West teams will play seven conference games in addition to one game against Washington State or Oregon State, which will not count as a conference game.

For the MW in basketball, it has just 11 teams. The programs typically play 18 conference games (nine home, nine road), so could the conference add an additional four games with the temporary additions of Washington State and Oregon State?

The Mountain West in men’s basketball is currently the seventh-best conference in Division-I—and it will quickly become the sixth once the Pac-12, currently in the top-6, disbands next year.

The Mountain West has five teams—Colorado State (18), New Mexico (24), San Diego State (29), Utah State (31) and Nevada (48)—inside the top-50 in the NET. Washington Stae is currently 8-1 and ranked No. 26 in the NET while Oregon State is No. 187 in NET at 6-3.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates.
