The Colorado State Rams were written off once conference play started because they lost three players to eligibility. The 7 remaining players for the Rams continue to prove that they shouldn’t have been written off with a 78-62 win.
The Rams started slow as has been the case all year, but what allowed them to stay in the game was their defense. They forced the Fresno State Bulldogs to commit numerous turnovers in the first half.
The Rams played good defense all game, save a few lapses. The Rams defense has grown all year and should allow them to hold their own against anybody.
The Rams offense started slowly, shooting under 40% in the first half. In the second half the Rams took advantage of a physically and mentally tired Bulldogs team. The Bulldogs were coming off a 4OT loss to Wyoming on Wednesday. The Bulldogs were able to keep it up for the first half, but in the second half their legs seemed to give.
J.D. Paige was able to keep the Rams in it in the first half, scoring 14 first half points. He finished with a game high 23 points. Gian Clavell had 19 and Emmanuel Omogbo had 17 points.
Fresno State was able to keep Omogbo off the boards as he finished with only 2 rebounds. Nico Carvacho stepped up in his place. He finished with 11 rebounds. Carvacho also made numerous hustle plays to either gain or save possession for the Rams.
The Rams will look to continue their hot streak at Wyoming on Tuesday, February 14th in the first basketball edition of the Border War.
