Wyoming dies by the three, falls to Boise State, 80-65

Horrendous shooting, fouls featured prominently Saturday night in Laramie

NCAA Basketball: Boise State at Wyoming Troy Babbitt-USA TODAY Sports

In a contest that looked to be much closer than what it was, the Cowboys dug themselves into an early, deep hole.

The game was tight for the first seven minutes (17-16 BSU) before the Broncos rattled off a 25-12 run to close out the second half.

During the last thirteen minutes of the first half, the Cowboys shot an astonishing 3 for 17 (!!!) from the field, including 0 for 6 from beyond the arc.

The Broncos, on the other hand, shot 9 for 21 (5 for 12 from three).

This run effectively killed Wyoming’s chances at winning this game. If we took these thirteen minutes out of the game, Wyoming only would’ve lost by two points. Wyoming would have finished the game shooting 50%.

But we can’t. Because that’s against the rules of basketball.

Wyoming played pretty good basketball for the rest of the game, minus their inability to hit the broad side of a barn from deep.

The referees policed the hell out this game, calling 47 (!) fouls throughout the contest. No one fouled out, but the entire Bronco starting lineup finished the game with three or more fouls, along with Alex Hobbs, who finished with four. The Cowboys had three guys finish with four fouls, with another two starters getting called for another three apiece.

Boise State was led by James Reid, Paris Austin, and Chandler Hutchison, who were the only Broncos to put up double digits in points.

Wyoming’s leading scorer, Louis Adams, was helped by his many trips to the foul line, scoring eight of his twelve points by the charity stripe.

Also, Justin James posterized Nick Duncan.

The Cowboys will travel to San Diego to take on the Aztecs on the 31st, while the Broncos go to Fort Collins.

See you next time.

Go Pokes.
