MBB Preview: Colorado State vs New Mexico

Colorado State Welcomes New Mexico To Moby Arena

NCAA Basketball: UNLV at Colorado State Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Colorado State (11-6, MW 3-1) return to the hardwood a week after their most impressive win of the season. The Rams look to get head coach Larry Eustachy win number 501 but have to get by a wounded New Mexico team in order to do it.

Colorado State found its offensive touch in their big win against Air Force last Saturday. But with six full days off the question becomes, will the Rams be able to continue their hot shooting?

Senior guard Gian Clavell has found his game legs after his suspension and senior Emmanuel Omogbo continues to impressive as he goes for his ninth double-double of the season. With defenses focusing on these two, the Rams Prentiss Nixon has developed into a genuine offensive threat. The sophomore guard is averaging 12 points a game and has led Colorado State in scoring five times this season.

New Mexico (9-8, MW 2-3) comes stumbling into Ft Collins. Losers of three in a row which includes an overtime loss to Nevada at The Pit where they blew at 25 point second half lead. Add that to an unimpressive record in nonconference play and it’s safe to say that head coach Craig Neal is officially on the hot seat.

It’s not all doom and gloom for the Lobos. They do have two of the top five scorers in the Mountain West in senior forward Tim Williams and junior guard Elijah Brown. Williams can also hold his own in the rebounding department which makes the matchup between him and Omogbo one to watch.

Tip off is scheduled for Saturday at noon at Moby Arena and can be seen on ROOT Sports.
