Brandon Clarke finished with a team-high 18 points and nine rebounds, but the San Jose State Spartans fell to the Nevada Wolf Pack 80-55 in their Mountain West opener at Lawlor Events Center on Wednesday night.
The Spartans came into conference play with the best record since 2010. However, they were unable to get past the Wolf Pack.
The Spartans trailed 11-8 at the timeout with 13:46 left in the first half. SJSU had a scoring drought, but Clarke ended it with a spinning layup. The team was down by 10 with 8:44 left in the first.
Clarke led all scorers with 14 points at the break, but SJSU trailed 40-29 at halftime. Ryan Welage was scoreless in the first half.
The Wolf Pack had Wednesday’s game from start to finish. They went on to stun the Spartans by a score of 80-55. With the victory, the Wolf Pack extended their winning streak to six games.
The Spartans return to San Jose next Wednesday to host the Colorado State Rams. The game tips off at 7:00 pm PST on Campus Insiders and KLIV 1590 AM.
