The World University Games is an event that pits college enrolled students between the ages of 17-24 every other in events typically found in the Olympics. Basketball is the most popular sport and the Mountain West will be well represented at the Games in July. The WUG's will take place in Kazan, Russia, with tournament play beginning on July 7.
The three Mountain West players heading to Russia are New Mexico's Alex Kirk, who is part of Team USA, and then there is Boise State guard Igor Hadziomerovic and New Mexico forward Cameron Bairstow who will be playing for Australia. Both Hadziomerovic and Bairstow have been in China preparing for the games by playing five days in six games prior to heading to Russia.
Kirk will meet up against his current teammate Hadziomerovic since Australia and the United States are in the same Group C. The two will meet up on July 11, 7 p.m. ET. It seems that these games could be televised online at the official WUG website, but it is not clear. The official website is where to keep up with the action.
