Mountain West basketball standings: Air Force hot streak puts them in second place

There is a little bit of separation in the latest Mountain West standings, but not much. The big surprise is Air Force being in second place.

Josh Holmberg-USA TODAY Sports

After another crazy week of Mountain West basketball which saw Boise State able to lead UNLV wire-to-wire in a historic win at home -- yes, the court was rushed, and worth it. Then there was Air Force upseting then-No. 22 San Diego State at home to improve to 5-2 in league play.

The only team that has been able to relatively stay unscathed are the New Mexico Lobos, as they are 6-1 in the Mountain West. The Lobos are just ahead of both Air Force and Colorado State, both are 5-2. Colorado State could be the team to win the league as their two losses came against San Diego State and New mexico, but by a combined 12 points.

San Diego State and UNLV who were considered preseason favorites are stuck at 4-3. Then there is Boise State who is making a case for a NCAA at-large berth after their win over UNLV, but they are 3-4 in league play.
