Mountain West conference play opens with the Mountain West Conference in a terrific position collectively as well as individually - and this comes after one of the most successful out-of-conference performances in the history of the league.

The MWC enters league play ranked No. 2 in RPI, eight of nine members standing with winning records, six teams with more than 12 wins (the No. 19 San Diego St. Aztecs, No. 20 New Mexico Lobos, UNLV Runnin' Rebels, Colorado St. Rams, Boise St. Broncos and one team (the Wyoming Cowboys) undefeated.

This weeks top games include:

  • UNLV (13-2) at No. 20 New Mexico (13-2), The Pit in Albuquerque, N.M., CBS Sports Network, Wednesday 8 p.m. MT - The Runnin' Rebels and Lobos renew their heated rivalry with both teams likely to be looking at returning to the Top 25 (UNM is Top 25 this morning but won't be come Monday afternoon). Both teams are title contenders so this is a crucial game kicking off conference play.
  • Boise State (12-2) at Wyoming (13-0), Arena-Auditorium in Laramie, Wyo., Root Sports (Rocky Mountain and Northwest), Wednesday 8 p.m. MT - The undefeated Cowboys enter without top shooter Luke Martinez (sidelined with a broken finger) and the Broncos are looking for another statement road win. The winner takes a step up from pretender to contender.
  • Colorado St. (13-2) at No. 19 San Diego (12-2), Viejas Arena in San Diego, Calif., NBC Sports Network, 5 p.m. PT - Like Boise St., the Rams are starting their quest for legitimacy on the road. The Aztecs begin the defense of their league title having lost just one game since their opening loss in adverse conditions on the U.S.S. Midway. A great way to close the week out.
