Mountain West Baseball Weekend Preview

A look at this weekend's baseball action in the Mountain West.

Here is the preview of the series for this weekend in the Mountain West:

San Diego State (32-18, 17-10 MW) vs Air Force (21-24, 10-14 MW)

The Aztecs travel to Colorado Springs to face the Falcons in the final conference series for the Aztecs. SDSU is coming off a victory over crosstown rival the University of San Diego which was much needed after losing a home series to UNLV last weekend.  Aztecs third baseman Tyler France is on a eight game hitting streak in which he has two doubles, a home run, three RBIs and scored nine runs.

The Falcons are coming off a series win over the Army Black Knights last weekend and will play host for the last time this season. With the series win over Army, it gave the Falcons their first 20-win season since 2002.

Fresno State (24-25, 13-11 MW) vs UNLV (22-25, 8-16 MW)

The Bulldogs head out to Vegas to face UNLV this weekend. Fresno State enters this weekend tied for third place with New Mexico and one game back of SDSU for second place. The Bulldogs have won four of their last six games on the road and boast the best RPI in the conference at 74. Bulldogs pitcher Jake Shull has the lowest ERA in the conference at 1.35.

UNLV took two out of three games from SDSU last weekend for their first series win over the Aztecs in San Diego since 2007, however they did lose to Long Beach State during the week. Senior Dylan Ellis is the lead Rebel in the batting average department as he is hitting .354 and has 13 games where he has had multiple hits.

San Jose State (12-37, 5-19 MW) vs New Mexico (24-23, 13-11 MW)

The Lobos have lost seven in a row including a 22-8 defeat by the hands of instate rival New Mexico State on Tuesday. The hopeful cure for the losing is a three-game series with the last place Spartans in the regular season home finale for the Lobos. Despite the rash of injuries the Lobos have suffered, the Lobos are only a game back of San Diego State for second place.

#22 Nevada (38-12, 21-6 MW) vs Creighton (27-14, 10-4 Big East)

After clinching the Mountain West regular season title and the number one seed in the conference tournament, the Wolf Pack head out of conference to face the Creighton Blue Jays. The Wolf Pack lost to Saint Mary's this week which ended their five game winning streak. The Blue Jays are a team that relies on their pitching as they have a team ERA of 3.22 and look to cool off the Wolf Pack bats this weekend.
