Mid-Major top 10: Northern Illinois inches closer to Fresno State

Northern Illinois is getting close to dethroning Fresno State in the latest Mid-Major poll.

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

The latest mid-major poll is out and Fresno State still takes the top spot with Northern Illinois in the second spot, but the Huskies are getting closer to the Bulldogs. Of the seven voters four took Fresno State and the other three chose Northern Illinois.

The team that took the biggest jump is BYU who moved up to No. 3 after they defeated Boise State, last week they were in the fifth spot. Our site's poll nearly placed BYU at the top, but those two loses are hard to over look since Virginia is a bad team and Utah is just an all right team.

Rice made the biggest jump from the nine spot to the fifth spot after their latest win, and on the other end of the spectrum Boise State falls four spots to No. 8 after they lost to BYU.

Both Marshall and Bowling Green fell out of the polls due to their losses this past week.

There are a few new sites voting and here are the blogs participating UB Bull Run (Buffalo)Cowboy Altitude (Wyoming), Marshall Thundering Blog (Marshall)Miner Rush (UTEP), Mountain West Connection (Mountain West Conference)Sun Belt Insider (Sun Belt Conference) and Hustle Belt (Mid-American Conference).
