Week 9 Mid-Major Top 10 ballot: Fresno State, Northern Illinois remain leaders, Wyoming drops out

In our latest Mid-Major top 10 ballot it is still a two team race between Fresno State and Northern Illinois.

It is starting to look like the Mid-Major top-10 poll will be a two-team race between Fresno State and Northern Illinois; both schools remain the the top two spots in our ballots this week. There were some changes based on last weeks results, and two teams dropped from the polls.

BYU made a jump from fifth to third place after their 47-46 win over Houston, and the move was made because they have been on a roll and defeating an undefeated Houston team might have been the best win of the mid-majors this week; even though Houston is barely considered a major team, for at least this year.

Boise State moved to No. 4 and Ball State dropped down to No. 5 from being at No. 3. Partly because Boise State had a good win even though they lost starting quarterback Joe Southwick to a broken ankle, and were led by backup Grant Hedrick in defeating Nevada.

Wyoming dropped out after getting manhandled by rival Colorado State in the Border War. and the other team to drop from the poll was Western Kentucky who lost to Louisiana-Lafayette. The Ragin' Cajuns were one of the teams that were added since they are on a four-game winning streak and easily took care off the Hilltoppers.

The Rice Owls were the other team to enter the poll with their 5-2 record overall, and their only two losses came against Texas A&M and Houston.

Utah State was considered for one of the bottom spots after crushing New Mexico, as was Buffalo who is 3-0 in MAC play and has a 5-2 overall record which includes a loss to Ohio State.

The composite poll will be released Tuesday morning, but in the mean time here is our latest ballot, and of course bring your compliments or complaints
