Nevada simply did not have to talent to keep up with Florida State on the road. They were out played in nearly every aspect of the game. The game started out well for the Wolf Pack with a 7-3 lead at one point in the second quarter. After that though, Nevada was outscored by 59 points, ending the game with a 62-7 loss.
Nevada defensive coordinator Scottie Hazelton had to be pleased with the first half, only allowing 17 points, but the second half started with a two play and one play drive for the Seminoles that both resulted in touchdowns. Seminole running backs ran all over the Nevada front seven, especially in the second half. The running backs combined for over 325+ yards, and two running backs, Karlos Williams and Devonta Freeman, had over 100 yards. For the game Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston finished the game 15 for 18 for 214, two touchdowns and an interception for the Seminoles in his second straight impressive game to start his college career.
On offense the Wolf Pack were completely beat up. Starting quarterback Cody Fajardo did not play due to injury and backup Devin Combs only played in the first half due to an injury he suffered. So that left third string quarterback Tyler Stewart to lead the team in the second half. He did not look impressive, but that is to be expected given the situation. On the ground, freshman running back Chris Solomon carried the load for the Pack with Kendall Brock and Don Jackson both out, and had his first carrier 100 yard rushing game. He was the lone bright spot on offense.
Overall Nevada has a lot to work on going into next weeks Mountain West Conference opener against Hawaii.
