CBS to air Mountain West title game in '13, '14, option for '15

CBS Sports will air the first two Mountain West title games, and has an option for a third.

USA TODAY Sports

Mountain West fans rejoiced when the league announced that CBS Sports reached a multi-year agreement to broadcast the league's football championship game. Multi-year is anything more than one and that is what the CBS Sports agreement amounts too.

CBS will be airing the first two Mountain West title games in 2013 and 2014, and the 2015 year the network has an option. While this is better than being placed on CBS Sports Network alongside the SEC title game, it would have been nice to see at least a five-year agreement to air the game on broadcast television.

This just means that the fans of the Mountain West need to step up their game and watch the title game. Having it after the SEC title game, which by the way kicks off at 4 p.m. ET, and start once the Big Ten, Pac-12 title contests and any other games are already halfway done should help keep late-night football watches entertained.

The conference is still looking for a title game sponsor to help earn some more money for the conference, and that responsibility goes to Learfield which is the rightsholder. As of now, commissioner Craig Thompson is optimistic that a deal will get done.
