Air Force vs. Hawaii football preview

Hawaii travels to Colorado to take on Air Force on Friday night.

Ron Chenoy-US PRESSWIRE

The Air Force Falcons host the woeful Hawaii Warriors in a rare Friday night matchup. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2 with a 9:30 p.m. ET kick off. The Falcons are a huge 23-point favorite over the one-win Warriors squad. Air Force has not been the most consistent team this year, as they fell to UNLV and Army, but they have a decisive win over Nevada.

The Falcons must win to become bowl eligible, because their final game of the season is against Fresno State who has eight wins on the year. Air Force will need their rushing game to do what they do, and they should be able to since the Hawaii rush defense is just awful and gives up 209 yards per game. We all know Air Force is dominant at running the ball, and they average 335 yard per game.

This will be a game for quarterback Connor Dietz and running back Cody Getz can get back on track. The two have struggled a bit of late, Dietz due to an ankle injury.

The only real concern that Air Force has is that their secondary is not all that great, however Hawaii is starting Jeremy Higgins at quarterback, but Sean Schroeder is expected to see playing time Friday night. Higgins did play last week against Boise State where he completed 11 of 17 passes for 154 yards.

With a quarterback that Air Force has not seen before, that could lead to some early success for Hawaii, and with how Air Force has struggled against some bad teams if Hawaii gets off to a good start then this game could possibly be interesting.
