College baseball: MWC coaches project New Mexico to win league

New Mexico is the heavy favorite to win the Mountain West in 2013.

Matt Ryerson-US PRESSWIRE

The Mountain West baseball coaches have spoken by naming New Mexico as the preseason favorite for the 2013 season. The Lobos received six of the seven first place votes and 35 points overall. San Diego State earned the other first place vote and came in second place.

However, the spot for second place is very bunched with San Diego State earning 26 points, followed by Nevada with 23 and Fresno State. So, second place is firmly up for grabs.

It is no surprise that New Mexico is the top team this year, they lead the league with five players being named to the preseason All-Conference team. Fresno State has two players, and then UNLV, San Diego State and Air Force round out the rest with one player each.
