League play is underway in the Mountain West and it has already started off with a bang. The league is already showing why it is one of the best in the country and has a real chance at being a four or five bid league when March comes around. With the first week of league play behind us, let’s take a look at the top performers from this past weekend. We will be giving out two weekly awards: Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week.
Player of the Week
Omar Stanley (Boise State)
Without Stanley, the Broncos would have lost to San Jose State and the game probably wouldn’t have been close. Stanley was a force in the paint that the Spartans just couldn’t match. When the Spartans were going on their first half run, Stanley was the consistent force the Broncos needed to stay in the game. Stanley had a career day finishing with 30 points and 11 rebounds.
Newcomer of the Week
Great Osobor (Utah State)
The Montana State transfer had a huge week which helped the Aggies kick off league play with two wins, including an upset over Colorado State. Osobor had the best week of his college career averaging 26 points and 11.5 rebounds in wins over Air Force and Colorado State.
