It only took one day after football had ended to begin talking about next year, but here is the first edition of a way too early top 25 poll. There isn’t much in the way of Mountain West teams. However, Boise State makes an appearance at #24, citing the return of Ashton Jeanty and signing transfer Malachi Nelson at quarterback. If the Broncos are gonna get the hype over the next eight months, they will need to find a way to back it up once the season starts.
In a report that should surprise no one, ESPN is reporting that their sources say ESPN is in negotiations with the College Football Playoff to have exclusive rights for the next six years. If this happens, it would be a drastic change to the original intent of having different rounds or bowls broadcasted on different channels, similar to what the NFL does. The rumored figure is estimated to be $1.3 billion.
For what it’s worth, ESPN declined to comment to the ESPN reporters to confirm the ESPN report based on ESPN sources.
Chris Murray is back after a vacation and starts his mailbag off with a big question. He states he wants the Mountain West is a top-six basketball conference this year. However, when he dives into the numbers, the MW is actually the 7th best conference so far this season. They get hurt by not having a top-20 KenPom team and the fewest teams in the top 60. Also, in order to be taken more seriously, the conference will have to turn around their NCAA tournament records.
