NCAA Football: Mountain West Football Championship-Boise State at UNLV Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

There are no Mountain West football games this week, but there is plenty of football news with recruiting, the transfer portal, and coaching news happening at breakneck speed. Bowl games will resume in a week and a half and basketball games are taking place all the time. Through it all, we have you covered. Take a look at today’s links, plus the content coming your way on our site.

New FBS Division?

Reports started to come out yesterday morning when NCAA President Charlie Baker discussed creating new division that would allow the highest-resourced schools the ability to compensate athletes through a trust fund and direct NIL. Teams who can’t or don’t want to do this can opt-out, although obviously it would create a bigger divide between the have and have nots. On one hand, it would attempt to bring some order to the current transfer/NIL chaos. On the other, it may not change much and it can be seen as a way to avoid designating athletes as employees. The details, via the Athletic:

College Football Network All-Americans.

It’s All-American list season and the Mountain West had 18 players listed on the various teams. Ashton Jeany and Dallin Holker are the headliners, given that they are the two who made the first-team, but it’s a big accomplishment for all who appear here. A lot of familiar names are scattered through the lists, particularly on the offensive side of the ball, with seven names on the 4 teams. Team-wise, UNLV led the conference with 5 selections.

Lobos are getting a new Bronco.

Jeanty returning next year.

I suppose it’s now news when a player who could enter the transfer portal to earn a ton of NIL money decides to stay (and still earn a ton of NIL money).

Odom National COY Finalist.
