Mountaintop View 10-23-23. Falcons beat rival, Nevada gets first win of season, Lobos & Spartans win big, rankings.

NCAA Football: Nevada at San Diego State Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

It’s Monday, and we are back at it. We are fresh off another weekend of the season and have many more weekends of football to go! Through it all, the content keeps going. Check out our original coverage and what we can find from the World Wide Web below.

Air Force sink Navy.

So much for thinking the Falcons would lose something with their quarterback being out. Zac Larrier started the game and while he wasn’t much of a running threat, he didn’t need to be. Both defenses were stopping the run, but Air Force brought out a pass play early in the second quarter, which resulted in a 94-yard touchdown pass. That was really all the Falcons needed on the day, as their defense was too much for Navy to overcome. Air Force is for real.

Wolf Pack gets first win of the season.

It wasn’t pretty but after 413 days, Nevada now has something in the win column. This was possibly the worst MW conference game of the season. Between the Wolf Pack and Aztecs, no touchdowns were scored. Neither quarterback threw for over 100 yards. Brandon Talton was the only player who actually accounted for any points, kicking two field goals. But even he didn’t have a great game, missing two others. But for Ken Wilson and his team, no one cares this weekend.

Lobos manhandle the Rainbow Warriors.

New Mexico continues to look vastly different from the last year’s version, especially on offense. They scored 42 points in this game, which is over 25% of the points they scored in all of 2022. Dylan Hopkins was great, throwing three touchdowns. The team added another three on the ground with the running back duo of Andrew Henry and Jacory Croskey-Merritt. This was also the Lobo’s first Mountain West win since 2020.

Spartans keep Aggies in check, pick up a win.

In their homecoming game, San Jose State brought their offense and defense against Utah State. They were balanced on offense, throwing for three touchdowns and Kairee Robinson ran for you. Running back Kairee Robinson added one on the ground, his 8th straight game with. TD, breaking a school record. Perhaps more impressively, the Spartan defense contains the powerful Utah State offense, which came in as the highest-scoring offense in the Mountain West. SJSU earned its first win over Utah State since 2009, breaking a 10-game losing streak.
