Editor’s note: Last week was mistakenly labeled Week 1 rather than Week 0. This week presents the Week 1 predictions.
The 2021 season is here, with all 12 teams now having played. Our team at Mountain West Connection will be releasing our bowl projections each week. For now, we will only be projecting Mountain West teams and what bowl game we think they will end up in. As the season progresses, we may add opponents. See below for this week’s predictions and be sure to join the discussion by posting your own in the comments section.

Los Angeles Bowl: Nevada
Hawaii Bowl: Fresno State
New Mexico Bowl: Air Force
Potato Bowl: San Jose State
Arizona Bowl: San Diego State
Guaranteed Rate Bowl: Boise State
I try my best to do my weekly projections as if bowls were decided today. So I put Nevada in the top spot in the LA Bowl, as they looked the best this week. Fresno State appeared like one of the stronger teams in the conference for the second week in a row so they debut on my list this week. I dropped Wyoming and even considered dropping San Diego State this week. Boise State gets an alternate bowl currently and I will keep my eye on Utah State. Expect more changes each week until things stabilize.

So, I haven’t dumped anyone yet. There’s still room on the Nevada bandwagon too.

After this past weekend, I moved Nevada into the top spots and took SDSU out. I think the Aztecs have a lot of flaws they need to clean up. The Aggies are almost in as well. I think the conference could realistically have eight eligible teams, but nowhere to go.
