The Mountain West had another exciting weekend of football. There were some disappointing losses (Boise State and Nevada), some impressive wins (San Diego State and Fresno State), and some results that were not a surprise at all (UNLV and New Mexico). With that being said, let’s recognize some outstanding performances from this past weekend.
Offensive Player of the Week
Jake Haener (Fresno State)
Haener ran away with the award this week. His performance in the fourth quarter was magical, leading the Bulldogs on a game winning drive with less than one minute left in the game. Haener finished the game with 455 yards passing and two touchdowns.
Also considered: Jalen Cropper, Ronnie Rivers, Romeo Doubs, Greg Bell, Calvin Tyler Jr., Deven Thompkins
Defensive Player of the Week
Justin Rice (Utah State)
The Utah State linebacker won the award from the Mountain West last week and has an excellent chance at repeating this week. He had 14 tackles and an interception in a game where defense was optional. Rice brought it and played a significant role in helping the Aggies move to 3-0.
Also considered: JL Skinner, Tayler Hawkins, Mohamed Kamara, Chad Muma
Special Teams Player of the Week
Jordan Byrd (San Diego State)
Byrd had 126 return yards, including a 100 yard return for a touchdown. His special teams play was critical to the Aztecs victory over Utah.
Also considered: Ralph Fawaz, Thomas Pannuzio
