Mountain West Connection Players of the Week: Week 2

We recognize the top players of week two

NCAA Football: Texas El Paso at Boise State Brian Losness-USA TODAY Sports

Week two has concluded and there were a number of entertaining games. The Mountain West had a strong week, finishing 8-3. The good news...there were not any losses to FCS teams. The bad news...Colorado State missed out on a great opportunity. There were a number of impressive performances this week, but these are our choices for players of the week:

Offensive Player of the Week

Terry Wilson

Sure, it was against New Mexico State, but this was the best performance I have seen from a New Mexico quarterback in a very long time. Wilson finished the game with 381 yards and two touchdowns. The Lobos improved to 2-0 on the season.

Honorable Mention: Hank Bachmeier, Khalil Shakir, Greg Bell, Devin Thompkins, Logan Bonner

Defensive Player of the Week

Seyi Oladipo (Boise State)

It came down to Oladipo and Rice. While UTEP is not a powerhouse by any stretch of the imagination, I decided to go with the true freshman who had two interceptions that he returned for 83 yards. One of the interceptions prevented a UTEP touchdown and really sealed the game.

Honorable Mention: JL Skinner, Chad Muma, Justin Rice, Demonte Meeks

Special Teams Player of the Week

Stefan Cobbs

In his first punt return in Albertsons Stadium, Stefan Cobbs took one 81 yards to the house. It changed the momentum of the game after a slow start. Cobbs went down with an injury in the second quarter, and his status is uncertain for this weekend’s game against Oklahoma State. He also contributed on the offensive side of the ball with a 61 yard catch for a touchdown.

Honorable Mention: Jonah Dalmas, Mannie Logan-Greene
