Who is going bowling?

The time has come, the 2021 season is upon us. We are past the time of watch lists, preseason awards, and have entered the time of bowl projections. Our team at Mountain West Connection will be releasing our bowl projections each week. Our first round of projections can be seen below and are sure to change as the season progresses. Early in the season, we will only be projecting Mountain West teams and what bowl game we think they will end up in. As the season progresses, we may add opponents.

Los Angeles Bowl: Boise State

Hawaii Bowl: Nevada

New Mexico Bowl: San Diego State

Potato Bowl: Air Force

Arizona Bowl: Wyoming

Guaranteed Rate Bowl: San Jose State

I kept mine the mostly same for this week, given only one of my six teams played. Early results justified my decision to put Wyoming and others in over Hawaii. Fresno State looked great and I think they will be a bowl team but I’m not yet at the point where I want to expand to 7 bowls or switch things out since the other teams haven’t played. My only change is switching Nevada and SJSU, as the Spartans looked great, albeit against subpar competition.

I didn’t expect Hawaii to win, but I expected some fight and didn’t see it. I think Air Force goes bowling, but placing seven Mountain West teams is a tough task. Otherwise, things stayed the same for me.

I’m not changing anything this week despite Hawaii losing. I’ve got Nevada running the table. So, they will undoubtedly lose to Cal this weekend.
