Bowl Predictions: Week 0.

The time has come, the 2021 season is upon us. We are past the time of watch lists, preseason awards, and have entered the time of bowl projections. Our team at Mountain West Connection will be releasing our bowl projections each week. Our first round of projections can be seen below and are sure to change as the season progresses. Early in the season, we will only be projecting Mountain West teams and what bowl game we think they will end up in. As the season progresses, we may add opponents.

LA Bowl: Boise State

Hawaii Bowl: Hawaii

New Mexico Bowl: Wyoming

Potato Bowl: Fresno State

Arizona Bowl: San Jose State

Guaranteed Rate Bowl: Nevada

I think the league gets 8 bowl teams. San Diego State and Air Force will also go bowling. But placement is tough at this point. If it comes down to which fan bases travel best, San Jose State could be in trouble.

I think 6 Mountain West teams will make bowl games this season and here are my initial 6 going into the season. Boise, SJSU, Nevada, and Air Force are all but locks. Wyoming’s defense and their schedule make a bowl game a good bet and I’m giving SDSU the edge over Hawaii and Fresno State at this point but things can and will change.

I think there is a chance the Mountain West can get seven, or possibly eight teams that are bowl eligible, with Air Force and Fresno State, possibly. But these are the six that I feel most comfortable about going to a bowl game. I have Nevada going to the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl (I will always love referring to that bowl by its full name), because I think they will win the Mountain West, at the moment. Boise State could give them a run for their money and make it interesting, but for the moment I have the Wolf Pack. San Jose State and Hawaii will also be teams that make bowls this year, and I am confident that Wyoming and San Diego State will be returning to form this year, thus they will also make bowl games this year.
