Outside Look at the MWC: Mike and Mike

Welcome to a new short summer series here at MWCConnection. I had the thought a few weeks ago that myself and others on the team here have formed thoughts and opinions over the years from following and writing about the Mountain West. But what does an “outsider” think about the Mountain West? So on Thursdays going forward, hear from different bloggers, reporters, coaches, and others as we ask them a few questions to get their perspective on the MWC. Enjoy.

Today’s post is a double feature! Mike Quartey and Mike Clayton

How often do you watch Mountain West sports?

Sometimes when we are scouting and evaluating talent.

Can you name all 12 football-playing schools (without looking it up)?

I can name almost all the teams but sometimes I miss a couple

Is there one sport where you think the conference is known for or excels in?

I love the air offense and the DB play in the conference. Both sides of the ball know how to stretch and cover the field.

What do you think are the strengths of the conference and what do you perceive as the growth areas?

Very strong programs that play in bowls and develop NFL talent. The conference can keep working to get all the teams more visibility but regardless its a strong conference.

What do you think the Mountain West needs to improve or change in order to be more competitive?

I am not sure I have the answer but continue to support the lower performing programs and continue to be more competitive in recruiting.

The conferences geographical region is definitely a beautiful one. The schools can pull talent from rich states such as California, Utah, and Colorado. One glaring growth area would be identifying ways to increase national exposure.
