For the second time in as many days, Nevada Wolf Pack quarterback Carson Strong has been named to a preseason award watch list.
Strong, the reigning Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year, was named to the Davey O’Brien Award watch list, it was announced Tuesday. It’s annually given to the nation’s top quarterback. It was awarded to Alabama’s Mac Jones last season.
Strong led the Mountain West in completion percentage (70.1), passing yards (2,858) and passing touchdowns (27).
He posted five 300-yard performances and two 400-yard performances — both coming in two of the team’s first three contests last season. His best performance featured a four-touchdown, 420-yard performance in the season opener on Oct. 24 versus Wyoming.
Strong and San Jose State gunslinger Nick Starkel were the only two Mountain West quarterbacks to be named to the watch list, which was compiled of 30 quarterbacks.
