Nevada Wolf Pack wide receiver Romeo Doubs earned his first preseason All-American honor Tuesday. It came from the publication Athlon Sports.
Athlon Sports compiled first, second, third and fourth teams on its All-American list. Three wide receivers were chosen for each team. Doubs made the third team, along with Oklahoma’s Marvin Mims and USC’s Drake London.
Doubs, who earned first-team All-Mountain West honors last season, was the only member from the Wolf Pack to make the team. Doubs was just one of three Mountain West players to make Athlon Sports’ All-American list — joining Utah State’s Savon Scarver (3rd team; kick returner) and reigning Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year Cade Hall (fourth team; defensive line) from San Jose State.
Doubs was the top wideout in the Mountain West last season, totaling conference highs in receptions (58) and yards (1,002), while tying teammate Cole Turner for the conference’s most receiving touchdowns with nine.
He began the season with five straight 115-yard, one touchdown performances before closing the final four games with 22 receptions for 224 yards. In the second game of the season, the 6-foot-2 deep-ball threat tallied seven catches for a career-high 219 yards (!) and one touchdown. Doubs had two games with three touchdowns apiece, too.
With his cohort, Elijah Cooks, healthy this season, the two should form the best one-two wideout duo for All-Conference quarterback Carson Strong this upcoming season.
