The Mountain West Conference 2021 Strength of Schedule.

Our friends at SportsBettingDime are at it again. This time with Strength of Schedule ratings.

The proprietary @SBD Strength of Schedule formula is based upon their opponents’ efficiency ratings from last season minus the production lost from the 2020 team; recruiting rankings; major transfers added and lost. The formula is then adjusted for each game based upon home and road games. As a point of reference, the toughest possible schedule would score 397.09, making Arkansas’ SOS 31.82% of the hardest possible schedule. The easiest hypothetical schedule against all FBS opponents would score -471.94 making UTEP’s SOS (171.68) 36.38% of the easiest schedule.

We pulled the MWC Teams out for convenience but the complete list is below.

A few thoughts here:

• With teams like SJSU and Nevada returning so much production and having easy schedules, can they repeat or even improve on their seasons from last year?
• Boise State may be in the opposite boat, as they lost a moderate amount of production and have a difficult schedule, at least among MWC teams.
• For a team like UNLV, who struggled last year, and maybe even Colorado State, the road does not get easier this year to climb the win column.
