We are at the mid-point of the week and with it comes the latest links pertaining to the Mountain West Conference and college sports in general. Check out what is coming your way today as the links press on.

No one is talking about Nevada baseball.

The Nevada baseball program has their best team in at least 20 years, but they have a chip on their shoulder because they aren’t being talked about. If you want to cheer on the Wolf Pack as their begin the NCAA tournament, read about the team here.

Coach Carter named MVP.

Alonzo Carter, the running backs coach and recruiting coordinator (and newly named assistant head coach) for San Jose State, and one of the pioneers in lifting up minority coaches around the country. For his efforts, Carter was named this year’s MVP of the National Coalition of Minority Football Coaches. His weekly zoom meetings last summer gained national spotlight, as he increased membership by over 100 members and mentored them by conducting mock interviews and training. That paid off as 19 members gained career advancement in some way this offseason.

New Mexico adds a Week 0 game in 2024.

In 2024, New Mexico will begin their football season on August 24th. The Lobos will play a week 0 game against Montana State at home. This will be their 13th game, which is allowed due to them playing Hawaii on the road that season. For the game, UNM will pay Montana State $360,000 to play. This will be the first time they ever play one another.
