New Mexico new facility post
A gift in the form of $1 million dollars came to the struggle New Mexico athletic department last week. With it, an announcement for a new performance center for all 18 Lobo sports programs. There is some renewed hope with new blood in the football program, a new men’s basketball coach, and a women’s basketball program that won the MWC in the regular season. Now is the time to invest and UNM is doing just that.
Transfer rule change appears closer than ever.
Everyone knows granting immediate eligibility to first-time transfers is inevitable, but the decision seems to be moving closer than ever based on this latest update. There was a meeting at the end of last week in an attempt to hammer out many of the details. The official announcement could come as soon as April 15th.
Hammon honored with a legacy award.
Beck Hammon is no stranger to awards and honors. The latest is the Legacy Award, of which, she was one of eight recipients. The award highlights former college athletes for their community outreach, local activism, and commitment to inclusive excellence. Hammon is as deserving as anyone for being such a successful assistant coach in the NBA and even served as a head coach in a game where Greg Popovich was ejected. In addition to her impressive coaching qualifications, she has done all of this while breaking barriers as a woman.
MWC earnings from March Madness
Mountain West, btw, stands to make about $4.08 million over the next six years for getting two teams in this season's NCAA Tournament, per @Sportico reporting.— Geoff Grammer (@GeoffGrammer) March 31, 2021
Those best-case-scenarios with four MW teams in (even assuming none won a game) would have meant more like $8.2M. https://t.co/qYcn3MoeN5
