Championship weekend is now over. The bowl games have been announced. Signing Day is around a week and a half away. Through it all, coverage is still coming your way today in the form of game links from the weekend and original content later today and all of this week.
Utah State sits atop the Mountain West.
Picked fourth in their own division. Doubted even after some early season wins. Barely anyone picked them to win the championship against SDSU. But none of it mattered. Anyone watching the game certainly saw that the Aggies were the better team in Saturday’s game. USU came out with more energy, an aggressive defense and once their offense got rolling, the game was never close. Congrats to the Aggies!!!
Playoff expansion is still waiting
Another meeting, another lack of a decision in making playoff expansion official. It sounds like things do remain close, for what it’s worth. The 12 team model is not a guarantee as it once was. An 8-team model remains alive. Holdups seem to include: the size of the field and who qualifies (or doesn’t).
Matt Araiza is changing the game.
MWC championship game notwithstanding of course. He is an outstanding punter who loves punting. He is changing how coaches and teams view punters. He doesn’t focus on hang time or fret over touchbacks or even out-kicking coverage. Instead, the goal for him is to kick it has hard as he can and place it where he wants. Araiza is much more focused on net punting and limiting return yardage in order to flip the field. So far, the results have been terrific.
CSU Coaching Candidates
Tony Alford is the obvious choice and should be the front-runner. He should have been the choice last time. However, there are some other interesting names as well. Jeff Choate, Jay Weber, or even Jim McElwain. Plus some P5 coordinators are mentioned here.
Bowl Destinations for 8 teams.
