Mountain West Connection Players of the Week: Week 5

Great performance lead to season changing wins for some teams

NCAA Football: Nevada at Boise State Brian Losness-USA TODAY Sports

We are already approaching the halfway point of the season and the Mountain West has been full of surprises. This past week was no exception with huge wins for Nevada and Hawaii. Let’s take a look at the top performers of week 5.

Offensive Player of the Week

Toa Taua (Nevada)

Taua had 124 yards on only 12 carries and two touchdowns. He also contributed through the air with 7 catches for 44 yards. It appears that the best remedy for a struggling running game is playing Boise State. A great performance this weekend for the Wolf Pack, highlighted by an unexpected hero in Taua.

Defensive Player of the Week

Khoury Bethley (Hawaii)

The senior defensive back picked a great game to have a career night. Bethley had two interceptions, a sack, and nine tackles leading the Rainbow Warriors to a 27-24 victory over Fresno State.

Special Teams Player of the Week

Brandon Talton (Nevada)

Talton was 4 of 4 on field goals and it proved to be the difference in a four point victory for the Wolf Pack.
