MWC Recruiting Roundup 10-18-21. Filled with the latest news, interviews, offers, and commitments.

It’s another week of the MWC Recruiting Roundup.

The recruiting cycle is in full force. Teams will be hosting official visitors and commitments will be plentiful once again in due time. Something that seems a bit new this year is how teams are prioritizing recruits in the class of 2023 already. Many schools, such as Boise State and Nevada this week, hosted recruits as unofficial visitors this past weekend. While they won’t be recorded here, it is noteworthy. Perhaps teams set their sights on future classes sooner due to taking fewer high school recruits and more transfer portal players as of late.

For this week, offers were handed out, visits occurred, and new commits were announced. There were four known commitments this past week; one for Air Force, Hawaii, Nevada, and one for SDSU. As for the cover photo, the Rainbow Warriors earn a place on the banner this week.

Class of 2021 Cover Photo Total:

  • Utah State: 6
  • Air Force: 4
  • Boise State: 4
  • Fresno State: 4
  • San Diego State: 4
  • New Mexico: 3
  • Hawaii: 2
  • UNLV: 2
  • Wyoming: 2
  • Colorado State: 1
  • Nevada: 1
  • San Jose State: 1

Recruiting Calendar:

We are currently in an evaluation period from now through most of November. Athletes can visit colleges through official and unofficial visits. Just as importantly, coaches can watch players in person at their high school games. Here is the official definition:

An evaluation period is that period of time when it is permissible for authorized athletics department staff members to be involved in off-campus activities designed to assess the academic qualifications and playing ability of prospective student-athletes. No in-person, off-campus recruiting contacts shall be made with the prospective student-athlete during an evaluation period.

Also, September 1st is the first day schools can actively recruit players in the 2023 class through letters, emails, texts, and social media.

Air Force Commitment Tracker:

Since the Air Force Academy regularly has around 100 commits in each class, it’s kind of fun to track them over the course of the year.

Number of Falcon verbal commits: 42

Visit Recap:

LB Gavin Hambrick (Boise State)

“It was amazing! It was actually my first college game I’ve ever been to so it was a blast! The fans were soo nice wishing the new recruits the best of luck!! It was really great being able to see the coaches again! They are so kind and have taught me so much already and I don’t even go there yet. The coaches and I also discussed what it’s going to take to succeed here, and that they hold a high standard that we must meet!”

OL Kage Casey (Boise State)

“The visit was great! Coming in with 3 hours of sleep due to my football game before and the early flight made Saturday the only day I’ve ever needed coffee to stay awake but it was amazing needless to say. I met a lot of the other commits, ate tons of food, and the game itself was awesome. My favorite part was the player talk in the big film room. All us commits got to ask the seniors questions we had about college on the academic and football side.”

WR Zamondre Merriweather (Boise State)

“The best way to describe my experience at Boise State this weekend is unbelievable. This was my first time visiting the school and I was very impressed. The facilities were super nice and the stadium was even crazier. The whole coaching staff at Boise State are very easy to talk to. I talk to them every week so talking to them wasn’t anything new to me. It was good to finally see everyone in person rather than on the phone. It was good talking to some of my future teammates. I got along with everyone there and we spent some nice quality time with each other. We all got to know each other really well during this weekend.”

WR Jack Moll (Colorado State)

“It was a super good game. It was really fun to watch CSU win and it was fun seeing their facilities and all they have to offer! I got to talk to the coaches, just about the game and their year so far.”

Commitment Spotlight:

RB Kaden Cloud (Air Force)

“The main reasons that I committed to Air Force was the relationship that the coaches built with me ever since they offered me as well as the winning culture that they have sustained over a long period of time. I also realized the opportunities that they provided for me coming right out of college were unbeatable.”

RB Hassan Mahasin (San Diego State)

“They were the first coaches to contact me after my injury and still showed the same amount of love as if I never got injured. They showed that they care about me and still want me. Also, I loved my visit up there in the summer. I like that the program is headed in the right direction and that they are winning. I feel that these coaches are going to get me prepared for the next level and make me a better person overall.”
