Nevada lands Texas transfer Will Baker

NCAA Basketball: Texas at West Virginia Ben Queen-USA TODAY Sports

Texas transfer and former four-star recruit Will Baker has committed to Nevada, 247sports.com was first with the report.

After announcing his decision to transfer in late November, he will join Nevada with three years of eligibility remaining.

Baker, listed at 6-foot-11, averaged 2.1 points and 1.9 rebounds in 8.4 minutes per game last year, appearing in 23 games. He shot 27.5 percent from the floor and 15.4 percent from beyond the arc. In his final seven games, he averaged 5.0 points and 3.1 rebounds in 14.6 minutes per contest on 39.4 percent shooting with a 35.7 3-point percentage.

The Austin, Texas native was the the No. 35 graded prospect in the 2019 recruiting class by 247sports; No. 37 by ESPN; No. 28 by Rivals. A graduate of Westlake High School, Baker averaged 24.7 points and 12.8 rebounds as a senior. He led Westlake to the Class 6A regional semifinals both as a senior and a junior.

Here is 247Sports’ scout take on Baker:

Nevada is adding a lefty skilled big man with a soft touch that extends out to the three-point line. When confident, he can operate aggressively and efficiently in the high and low post areas, demonstrating a high release point on short jumpers and jump hooks. Although his agility and motor are question marks within his game, his offensive instincts and ability to space the floor as a seven-footer will be heavily valued. His combination of size and skill could make him a valuable three-year player for the Wolf Pack.
