No football: Now What???

We discuss our next steps on the site.

We are now in the worst case scenario. The Mountain West will not play fall sports this year. Many of the other FBS programs are doing (or not doing) the same, and although some are still trying, it is a safe bet there will be no college football at all.

Here at MWCConnection, we will still be up and running, bringing you whatever content we can in the months to come and beyond. Without sports, content can be hard to come by. Of course there will be news and updates, as there has been the past five months. Recruiting never takes an off day, and you know we have enough opinions to go around for article ideas. However, that still leaves some holes in weekly content. We have some ideas and want your input for what you want to read.

Content we’re keeping around:

Daily: Mountaintop View

  • The new will keep coming and we will keep presenting it to you in a concise way.

Monday: MWC Recruiting Roundup

  • The latest recruiting news and updates in the Mountain West will roll out every week. We will go more in depth in the near future, analyzing a different team’s recruiting each week in the fall, some interviews with recruiting directors if we can secure them, and of course we will continue our monthly team recruiting rankings.

Tuesday: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

  • Zach’s weekly column will continue in some way, shape or form. You may see team and player analysis, reviews of old games, and from time to time he may even dabble in the lighter side of things. If you have any suggestions for a series, feel free to comment. But one thing is for sure, it will continue every Tuesday.

Wednesday: Peak Perspective

  • Like our Tuesday column, our Wednesday one will continue each and every week. Going forward, this is likely where you will see many of our thoughts on the college football and the Mountain West as it relates to COVID. Some topics you can look for will be the dilemma of what to do with eligibility if the whole year is lost, what a spring season may look like, the loss of non-football fall sports, financial implications and more.
  • Without a season, it is also a time to ponder big picture changes that the NCAA could be figuring out with extra time on their hands. Some of these will be the impending transfer rules, how players can benefit off their image and likeness, and expanding the playoff and redoing the bowl system structure.

Thursday: Team related posts

  • We asked on Twitter and you responded in a big way. You want more team coverage even without teams actually playing games. Now we will ask, what type of team coverage are you looking for? Play profiles, an in-depth look into team’s offensive and defensive schemes, talking about what could have happened in games if they were played, how teams utilize each position? Let us know.

Friday: MWCConnection Roundtable

  • This has been a staple of our offseason for a few years now and it will continue with a longer offseason. Again, if you have questions you want us to tackle, let us know in the comment’s section. Otherwise, we will keep rolling out questions of our own every Friday.

Content we want to try:

MWC players in the NFL

  • If there is a season, we will cover our Mountain West alumni in some kind of weekly post.

Simulated game recaps

  • FatDuckUW is doing a sample post this Thursday. Take a look at it and give us feedback. Should we pick a game every week or should each team writer do a game a week?

Talking about football shows and movies

  • Since we can’t talk about real football, let’s talk about football. We will probably do a weekly recap of the first season of Friday Night Lights that people can follow along with. But Last Chance U, QB1, Remember the Titans, and more are fair game as well.

What else?

  • Got any ideas? Feel free to share.

We also want to hear from you. Since you are reading, what do you want us to write about?
