Nevada football picked to finish second in West Division, earning two first place votes

Nevada football has been projected to finish second in the West Division in the Mountain West’s Preseason Poll for 2020, announced today by the conference.

San Diego State was picked first in the West Division after receiving 19 of the 21 total first-place votes. The Wolf Pack received the other two first-place votes — ahead of of Hawai`i (third) and Fresno State (fourth). San José State (fifth) with UNLV placing last.

This is the third time since joining the Mountain West in 2012 where Nevada was picked to finish second, the first since 2016. Nevada was also projected to place second in 2012.

On the Mountain Division side, Boise State was the runaway pick for first place, garnering all but one first-place vote. Wyoming barely edged Air Force for second place. Utah State was fourth, followed by Colorado State (fifth) and New Mexico (last).

The Mountain West’s planned virtual media days for next week were postponed Monday and the league is announcing its preseasons predictions and honors this week. The 2020 Preseason All-Mountain West team will be announced on Wednesday.
