NCAA Football: Cheez-It Bowl-Air Force vs Washington State Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Air Force football coach Troy Calhoun among 2 finalists at Colorado, according to report

I do my best to avoid the articles listing coaching candidates for a vacant Power 5 job, because more often than not it’s nothing more than a series of educated guesses. It appears things have escalated beyond speculation between Air Force football head coach Troy Calhoun and the Colorado Buffaloes, whom have an opening thanks to the bizarre exit of Mel Tucker to Michigan State. Oddly enough, Calhoun and the Falcons beat the Buffs back in September. By the time you read this, Colorado might have already hired its coach. Regardless, has to be a little unnerving for Falcons fans that Calhoun even interviewed while the football team is in spring practice.

[edit] CBS reported late Wednesday night that Steve Sarkisian is the favorite for the job, with Calhoun running second FWIW.

Utah State men’s basketball gets fifth straight win in 78-58 victory over Wyoming

Despite there being three Mountain West men’s basketball games on Wednesday evening, it wasn’t exactly a night filled with meaningful basketball. Largely matchups of teams who’s fates are nearly decided. Utah State avoided any type of shocking upset by dispatching hapless Wyoming. Aggies fans are shopping for dancing shoes, and Pokes fans want the coaching search to start already.

Top 10 players returning in the Mountain West in 2020

The folks at PFF ranked their top 10 returning players for the 2020 Mountain West football season. PFF on Boise State star wide receiver Khalil Shakir, who ranks first in the ranking: “not only was he the best slot receiver in the Mountain West, but one of the best in all of college football.” Look for Shakir and the others on this list to have a big fall.

Rick Wright: Alford’s return to the Pit was unlike Bliss’ or Colson’s

Nevada tripped down to Albuquerque on Tuesday, meaning it was a reunion of sorts for Steve Alford and his assistant coach Craig Neal, both of which were head coaches at New Mexico. It’s been an ugly run for Lobos basketball since Alford left, and he and Neal were resoundingly booed when introduced. The Pit is still The Pit.
