Mountain West Connection Players of the Week

Which players stood out in week seven?

NCAA Football: New Mexico at San Jose State Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

Week seven of the college football season is behind us and we had nearly a full slate of Mountain West games. There were some great performances this past week, here are the ones that stood out to us.

Offensive Player of the Week:

Tory Horton (Nevada)

I thought long and hard about going with Jake Haener, but decided to go with the victory instead. Horton is proving to be quite a deep threat for the Wolf Pack. He stretched the field and took advantage of teams keying in on Romeo Doubs. Horton finished the game with 5 catches for 148 yards and three touchdowns.

Defensive Player of the Week:

Brandon Shook (New Mexico)

The senior linebacker propelled his squad to their first victory of the season. Shook finished the game with 13 tackles and an interception that sealed the game for the Lobos.

Special Teams Player of the Week:

Jordan Byrd and BJ Busbee (San Diego State)

Byrd had a kickoff return for a touchdown and Busbee had a punt return for a touchdown. The duo provided a nice lift to an Aztec team that could not get much going on the offensive side of the ball.
