Nevada guard Desmond Cambridge was given the Mountain West Player of the Week award, the conference announced Monday.
Of the three games the Wolf Pack had last week, Cambridge posted two 20-point performances, averaging 19.7 points on 42.6 percent (20-for-47) shooting and 41.4 percent from 3-point range. Cambridge hit 12 3-pointers last week and was a perfect 7-of-7 from the charity stripe. He added 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.7 blocks in 31.0 minutes per game.
Cambridge totaled a season-best 27 points on 9-of-19 shooting (7-of-11 from deep) in Nevada’s 79-72 win over San Diego. In the first of two games against Air Force, the 6-foot-4 guard tallied 23 points on 7-of-16 shooting with seven rebounds, five assists, two blocks and one steal. He knocked down four 3s on nine attempts from outside
In the latter matchup against Air Force Sunday, Cambridge snapped his string of three straight 20-point outings. He had just nine points on 4-of-12 shooting.
In his last four games, Cambridge is averaging 20.8 points on 43.5 percent shooting with 18 3-pointers at a 42.9 percent clip. Additionally, he’s tallying 4.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game.
On the season, Cambridge is averaging 14.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 0.9 steals in 28.4 minutes per contest. He is shooting 39.0 percent from the floor, 32.0 percent from beyond the arc and 93.3 percent from the free-throw line.
Nevada’s (6-3, 1-1 MWC) next contest is Thursday, Dec. 31 on the road against the New Mexico Lobos at 6 p.m. PST on FS1.
