Mountain West Connection Players of the Week

Which players stood out in week 8?

NCAA Football: San Jose State at San Diego State Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Mountain West regular season has concluded, and there was no shortage of drama. The Mountain West Championship is set, as the Boise State Broncos will take on the up and coming San Jose State Spartans. It is sure to be an electric game. But before we look ahead, let’s look at some great performances from week eight.

Offensive Player of the Week:

Tyler Nevens (San Jose State)

Nevens had his best collegiate game in probably the most important game of his life. The senior running back had two 69 yard runs that really swung the momentum in the game. Nevens finished the game with 184 yards on only 12 attempts and added a touchdown.

Defensive Player of the Week:

Darius Muasau (Hawaii)

What a game by Muasau! He was all over the field. The sophomore linebacker finished the game with 18 tackles, a sack, and 2.5 tackles for loss. He might be in the conversation for defensive player of the year in the Mountain West.

Special Teams Player of the Week:

Shamar Garrett (San Jose State)

Garrett made the most important special teams play of the week (maybe the year). His 98 yard touchdown return to open the half cut the Wolf pack lead to six and gave the Spartans hope.
