The New Mexico Lobos men’s basketball season will get underway earlier than expected, when they will play Rice on Sunday in Houston, Texas.
New Mexico was scheduled to start their season on December 3rd against Boise State. However, with the team unable to practice in the state they had to relocate to Texas late in November, causing the game to be pushed back. That contest will now be held on December 21st and the second of two games during the series on December 23rd.
The game on Sunday against Rice will be the Lobos first of the season, but it will be the Owls’ fifth contest of the 2020-21 season. Rice sits at 4-0 on the season with wins over Incarnate Word, Our Lady Lake of Saints, Le Tourneau, and Houston Baptist.
This will also mark the first game for Rice with an opponent out of the state of Texas.
As part of the agreement, Rice has allowed UNM to use their facility on Tuesday and Thursday provided they find an opponent for those games.
Game time Sunday will be at 1 p.m. MT, and will only be broadcast on Conference USA’s television website.
