Aggies in the NFL Week 8

A recap of former Utah State players in Week 8 of the NFL

NFL: San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

Each week after the NFL has completed its slate of games (starting with Thursday night football and ending after Monday night football) this series will take a look at news and statistics surrounding former Utah State Aggies players.

Week 8

Seattle Seahawks

Bobby Wagner had 11 total tackles. six solo and five assisted, and three tackles for loss in a 37-27 home win against the 49ers. Wagner also recorded four quarterback hits so that brings his season totals to 74 total tackles and two sacks.

Las Vegas Raiders

Nevin Lawson saw 100% of the defensive snaps for the second straight week, this time against the Browns in a 16-6 win. Lawson had 5 total tackles (four solo one assist) and also had a pass deflection. He has 27 total tackles, two pass deflections, and a quarterback hit this season.

Kansas City Chiefs

Darwin Thompson posted three yards on four carriers in a 35-9 win against the Jets and this is significant because it is the second most offensive snaps that Thompson has seen, seven snaps. His season high in terms of number of snaps played is 15. Though this may not be an indicator as the Jets did win in a blow out, it does show that Thompson is getting more opportunities to show what he can do. On 14 rushes this season, Thompson has 52 yards and has rushed for four first downs.

New York Giants

In a 23-25 loss to the Bucs. Kyler Fackrell appeared on 91% of the defensive snaps but posted just one assist tackle. The statistics show though Fackrell was on the field for much of the game, he wasn’t able to produce a lot. It was a close 23-25 loss and more production from Fackrell could have made a difference in the outcome. Fackrell is still getting a lot of playing time and considering that he has seen over 90% of the defensive snaps for the past four games, that playing time doesn’t seem likely to fall off soon.

Chicago Bears

Patrick Scales has still not appeared on any snaps on offense but he once again appeared on special teams with nine snaps, which was 27% of the special teams snaps. Scales is still awaiting the moment when his number will be called on to make an impact in the game.

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers were off this week. Tyler Larsen has appeared on two offensive snaps in 2020, both in a game against the Cardinals.

Green Bay Packers

Jordan Love has not had an appearances yet. It is known that he was selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. It is unknown when Love will see the field.

Game Balls

Instead of recognizing the efforts of one former Aggie in the NFL, why not recognize more? Game ball one goes to the most productive, second goes to the second most productive, and third goes to the third most productive.

Game Ball #1

Bobby Wagner added four quarterback hits to 11 total tackles, which showed that Wagner was getting pressure on the quarterback.

Game Ball #2

Kyler Fackrell. He may not have had the most productive week but he has been putting in a lot of playing time on the field which shows improvement.

Game Ball #3

Darwin Thompson, who though hasn’t put up any eye opening numbers, has still managed to and continues to see playing time.
